With vivid colours and abstract shapes, Gareth's sculptures float between sculpture and architecture. His inspiration, centred on North American minimalist architecture, led him to create pieces with simplified and organic forms. The artist usually uses steel as his main material.

His passion for this style led him to conceive architecture as an art that goes beyond functionality. Construction materials become raw material to create works of art. Gareth seems to entirely appropriate this principle to conceive his pieces and focus on their visual and aesthetic potential.

Gareth Griffiths: “My sculptures are influenced by West Coast architecture called “Googie”. The origin of Googie dates to 1949, when architect John Lautner designed the West Hollywood coffee shop Googies, which had distinct architectural characteristics. Features of this Mid-Century modern style include upswept roofs, curvaceous, geometric shapes, and bold use of glass, steel and neon. This piece is part of a new series I am currently making which is influenced by Brutalist architecture in London.”
