ABOUT THE ARTIST
"For me my artworks are the book that I would like to write, the music I would like to compose and the dance I would like to dance.“
Rafael Amorós is a Spanish artist who lives and works in Albaida not far from Valencia. His artistic work covers a wide range of disciplines such as painting, printing, lithography and screen-printing, but especially sculptures in different materials such as bronze, iron, stainless steel, brass and aluminum.
This last discipline exceeds all others due to his intensive focus on the subject and the creation of many recognizable works in open spaces and sites, like sundials and sculptures editions.
Contemporary sculpture is a key trend in modern art through its high level of plasticity, which seeks expression in three dimensions in order to occupy reality by merging materials such as marble, wood, bronze, ceramics and so many others. The elegant and flowing line of the pieces created by Rafael, in combination with the contrast of materials, creates a series of refined curvatures that interact with light and the environment around them, while seducing the viewer.
Iron, brass, aluminum and stainless steel are the materials with which Rafael generates these exquisite figures, showing his amazing skill in the art and great expressive power.
Artig Gallery presents a series of unique sculptures impressively made of different materials and techniques. The sculptures are signed by the artist, will be delivered with a certificate of authenticity and are in perfect condition. Sculptures will be shipped to your doorstep with a special assured transport.
IN MY OWN WORDS
“I was born in Albaida, a small town of less than 6,000 inhabitants in Valencia, which has in spite of its small size, been the home of several outstanding artists: Josep Segrelles, Monjalés, Messa, Kilis, César Nicolau.
I grew up admiring these artists, and then my curiosity led me to explore the works of several painters, sculptors, architects, musicians, writers and dancers. I try to be open and learn from the artists that capture my attention.
For me my artworks are the book that I would like to write, the music I would like to compose and the dance I would like to dance. I express myself in three dimensions; I think it is more real, more genuine. The space occupied by my works is more evident and makes me a more honest being. My sculptures have their origins in a game of thought and improvisation. I try to create a simple, balanced and elegant work. Curiosity is one of the main motivations in my pieces, every day I try to surprise a little more with what I do. I like working with different materials: iron, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, stone. In each material I find qualities to manifest: ductility, hardness, color, brightness, contrast, etc.”
My education has been self-taught. When I was young, I took classes from the artist Messa in Albaida. Later I moved to Valencia and started attending classes at the Faculty of Fine Arts of S.Carlos. I have taken courses of artistic engraving in Barcelona (Calella), Madrid (Quarta Wall), Pastrana. I also worked at Mas Sopalmo, Antonio Miro’s art studio.
Since 1983 Rafael has exhibit his pictorial, graphic and sculptural work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Spain and other countries such as Valencia, Alicante, Barcelona, Santander , Bilbao, Madrid , Belgrade, Stuttgart , Vienna , Ghent , Tangier , Casablanca, Bergamo.
