Elías Peña Salvador

Elías Peña Salvador

MEDIUM: Painting
CITY: Madrid, Spain

Passion and Poetry are key to understand the oeuvre of Elías Salvador, a young Spanish painter who lives and works in Madrid. His love for painting developed early, and at the age of twelve years old he was already building his artistic career. He continued to develop his enthusiasm for the arts and became a professional painter in prestigious universities in Spain, Greece and in the UK. Through his career, Elías was invited to participate in national and international competitions and has received numerous awards such as the prestigious “Arte Laguna International Painting Prize” in Venice, Italy.

In his works, Elías often combines classic compositions with thick and loose strokes of paint that emanate movement and energy. In his paintings, apparent inert figures appear full of vitality. His compositions narrate stories that filter through the canvas. All his characters and scenes pass through the artist's imagination until they are materialized into a painting.
His oeuvre, confronts us with strong feelings such as loneliness, sadness and even death in a colorful and dignified way.
Elias leaves no room for the obvious and invites the viewer to plunge into the symbolic and the poetic. The artist portrays a raw and complex reality, where multiple feelings and perspectives intermingle. In a single space he manages to display the complexity of our being, the mystery behind a portrait, the strength and the fragility of the human body.

“I understand painting as a form of communication between the painter and the observer, getting lost in that old-fashioned pleasure of the contemplation.
To me, painting is a necessity, a constant battle between discovering and investigating. Is to allow myself to get lost in its apparent reality, its narrative capacity, and the hidden language only painting can offer. Is not about representing reality, but to create images that are a concentration of themselves.
I seek for a style of painting that is alive and visceral, where every painting stroke, the masses of colors bumping into each other and the symbology of each shape, are a part of the creative process. The movement and the direction of the brush create apparent abstract shapes that blend together into figuration. Reality plus abstraction, chaos and harmony, the instant that separates accident from chance.
Every painting is the memory of a moment, an episode, a picture. It is an exercise of interpretation which purpose is to capture the essence, to recreate all sensations that that image suggested to me. In my artwork there are no facts, just interpretations.
I don´t seek to create something new, but to transform, rebuild and give another perspective of reality…”
