ABOUT THE ARTIST
ALONSO NÚÑEZ DEL PRADO is an artist originally from Lima, Peru, and currently living in Berlin. Alonso's artworks express explosions of colors and patterns; his exciting perspective is torn between the abstract and the figurative. Lines, circles and blurred but forceful strokes of paint are reiterative elements in his paintings, resembling street art and spontaneous urban art.
Artig Gallery presents a series of paintings created by Alonso, performed on different media like canvas and paper, made with materials such as oil and acrylic.
IN MY OWN WORDS
“I consider myself a painter with a classical academic Fine Arts background.
My studies mainly focused on Picasso and Matisse, and through them, Cubism and Fauvism transformed my perception of art. Afterwards, I began a research about abstract expressionism in North America, a movement that determined my further development as an artist and has a direct influence on my artworks today. During the nineteen eighties I discovered Naïve Art and Graffiti, aesthetics that became decisive in my plastic works.
My style varies according to the different materials and media I work with, but one could say that my paintings represent transitions between reduced forms and figurative objects and vice versa.”
Degree in Fine Arts from the National Superior School of Fine Arts, Peru (2000)
Solo exhibitions at Lucia de la Puente Gallery, Lima, Peru (2004, 2007)
